This week I was exposed to a variety of different types of media but I chose to focus on the content of Harry Potter. With the recent passing of Alan Rickman, my roommate and I decided to have Harry Potter movie marathon this weekend. I have always been a huge fan of the series and have taken some time to analyze the content before, but this assignment gave me the opportunity to delve even deeper.
I have come to the conclusion that the overall content presented in the Harry Potter series is good and portrays righteous morals. It teaches the viewers the value of friendship and that friends will always be there to help you through hard times. The series also portrays the importance of making good decisions and that good can triumph over evil. Even though there are terrible things that occur in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter is eventually able to defeat Voldemort and the wizarding world can live in peace.
Some parents may be hesitant to let their kids watch or read the series because of the magic element and fear that some parts of the series are too dark. But I believe that the good outweighs the bad and that it teaches people of all ages valuable lessons. The stories and lessons we read and watch in the Harry Potter series will live with us always.
RIP Alan Rickman for starters. He was a fantastic actor, whom you loved to hate at the beginning of the Harry Potter series and then loved to love as understanding of who his character was surfaced. I agree with you that there are many great morals in Harry Potter. The fight between good and evil in this series was beautifully portrayed.

ReplyDeleteThe Harry Potter books are like the only books I've ever read. I think that they are amazing, full of life lessons like you mentioned. And to think, the whole time we all hated snape, and yet, he ends up being one of the greatest heroes of the entire series. Sad to hear of his death, but now someone on the other side gets to teach him the gospel. :)
